Real Crossword
I’d love to see the native Crossword element become a true crossword rather than a Scrabble-style tile design.
Right now, the element uses wood-grain tiles with small point-value numbers in the corner of each letter. Even though the fill color can be changed, the design still strongly resembles Scrabble tiles, which makes it unsuitable for many commercial products.
Here are a few improvements that would make the element much more flexible:
Remove the Scrabble-style point-value numbers from the tiles.Add an option to display crossword-style numbering in the top-left corner of the starting squares, just like a traditional newspaper crossword.Allow the tile background to be customized instead of using the default tile appearance.Allow the letter font to be changed (e.g., Arial, Times New Roman, etc.).Include a “Crossword” style preset that produces clean, simple squares with no Scrabble-inspired styling.
This would allow merchants to create personalized crossword gifts without the design resembling Scrabble tiles, while also providing much greater creative flexibility for different brands and design styles.
